Nilgai
The blue bull of India — fast, wary, and one of the most prized exotics in Texas.
About the Nilgai
The nilgai — known in India as the blue bull — is the largest Asian antelope and one of the most challenging exotic hunts in Texas. Mature bulls can weigh 1,500 pounds and up, turning a deep blue-gray and carrying short, sharp horns of 8″ or more over a powerful, horse-like frame.
Nilgai are famously wary and fast. A bull will spot a hunter from over a mile and disappear before a stalk can close. They are typically hunted spot-and-stalk with a heavy-caliber rifle.
Nilgai venison is exceptional — lean, mild, and considered some of the best wild meat in Texas.
