USFWS-Permitted Conservation Hunt

Red Lechwe

A water-loving antelope rarely offered anywhere in Texas.

USFWS Endangered-Species Permit Required

About the Red Lechwe

The red lechwe is one of the rarest exotics available to hunt in North America. A semi-aquatic antelope native to the floodplains of south-central Africa, the lechwe carries a brilliant reddish coat and long, lyre-shaped, heavily ridged horns.

As with barasingha, lechwe hunts at 3-S are conducted under USFWS permit, and a portion of every hunt supports the conservation breeding that keeps these animals on the landscape.

Lechwe favor the wetter bottomland edges of the ranch, making for a genuinely different stalk than our plains species. There is almost no competition for this hunt anywhere in Texas.
